Assessment Assignment Content
Question
If you’re still unsure about what is a primary source and what is a secondary source, read the following description to help better understand the differences.
A primary source is a document created at the time of your research subject. These documents are directly connected with the events or people being researched
A secondary source is a document created at a later time than the event being researched, by someone who did not experience the said event
Assignment Summary – You will analyze and answer questions over an historical issue from the second half of U.S. History. Students will compare two opposing perspectives. Topic and sources are provided for this assignment. The subject you will investigate deals with America’s use of the atomic bomb on Japan during WWII. A much discussed and debated topic even today.
Instructions – Everything needed to complete this assignment is right here. The information you need is found in attached Use of Abomb on Japan pdf article below along with the questions. You can do additional research on the topic if you want; however the majority of information in your answers must come from the source provided.
Paper Format – Paper must be a minimum of 500 content words (“content words” is defined as words that answer questions, not words from the questions themself). It should be typed using Word, or a word processor that can be converted to PDF, in Times New Roman 11 font, and double-spaced. Papers are to follow the format of questions then answers. Those that don’t will be penalized. See “Sample Format” section below for more information.
Works Cited, Copying, & Late Paper Policy – The end of your paper needs a Works Cited in which the source(s) used are listed (Format is the Chicago Manuel of Style). Information to cite the source you read is located on the last page of the Use of Abomb on Japan document.
Plagiarism Policy and Punishment – Refer to the SJCD Student Handbook for policies/procedures on Plagiarism and Cheating.
Late Paper Policy – Because assignment is available for an extended period of time, no late papers will be accepted. If something of a catastrophic nature occurs that prevents completion, the student needs to contact the instructor promptly so an alternative schedule can be arranged.
